When a course instance has been created from a template, the course instance will be in this state

  • Data is usually still incomplete and everything can still be edited.
  • Lecturers or secretaries can move the state forward to Edited.

Course content:  The course is thematically divided into two parts:

Inferring evolutionary relationships:

  1. Mechanisms of genome evolution
  2. Models of gene substitution
  3. Combinatorial optimization problems for phylogenetic tree inference
  4. Methods for rooting phylogenetic trees
  5. Using minimum spanning trees to infer large phylogenetic trees

Learning evolutionary dynamics using trees:

Additionally, we will cover applications of phylogenetic trees such as

  1. Time-calibrated trees using molecular clocks
  2. Identifying genomic regions under selection
  3. Inferring migration history
  4. Molecular epidemiology of viruses
  5. Genetic basis of tumour evolution
