Content:
This course considers numerical methods for partial differential equations from fluid dynamics which describe the transport of species. In applications, the convective transport (first order derivative) dominates the viscous transport (second order derivative). Standard discretizations prove to be instable in this situation and special methods are required. There are many ideas and proposals for such methods. Several types of equations will be considered, but the emphasis will be on the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations and turbulent flows.
