Forschungsseminar: Human-Centered Computing W25/26
to Whiteboard Site

Description

Congratulations, you are now part of the student research team at the Human-Centered Computing (HCC) group.

We organize the supervision process for students within a peer group format and conduct regular meetings. The research group seminar is a key component of the supervision process for students working on their bachelor’s or master’s theses with the HCC group. Attendance is mandatory, and we will record participation to ensure consistent involvement.

Time for the Seminar

The seminar will take place from 2:15 PM to 3:45 PM in Room 111 (2nd floor) at Königin-Luise-Straße 24/26.

We meet on the following dates:

  • 18.11.2025 (host: Dr. Peter Sörries)
  • 02.12.2025 (host: David Leimstädtner)
  • 16.12.2025 (host: Jacobe Klein)
  • 06.01.2026 (host: Fabrizio Kuruc)
  • 20.01.2026 (host: Ulrike Schäfer)
  • 10.02.2026 (host: Prof. Dr. Claudia Müller-Birn)

Preparation for the Seminar

To ensure productive sessions, we ask you (students) to come prepared for each seminar. Each of you who is writing a thesis with us (HCC) will receive a repo that contains all the necessary information.

Especially important are the meeting notes that need to be regularly updated by students in the wiki.

To each session, you need to give a short presentation that contains the following three slides:

  1. Research question and goal of the thesis
  2. Current status within the whole schedule
  3. Questions or issues you would like to discuss

Be prepared to provide constructive feedback on your peers’ work and actively contribute to discussions.

Goals of the Seminar

The seminar is designed to achieve the following goals:

  • Provide a platform where students can share their progress, challenges, and experiences, benefiting from collective insights.
  • Encourage Peer Collaboration: Build a sense of community among students, encouraging them to learn from and support one another.
  • Foster Critical Thinking: Encourage students to critically evaluate their own work and the work of their peers, improving the overall quality of theses.

Structure of the Seminar

Check-In Presentations:

  • Each student will have up to five minutes to present the current status of their thesis.
  • This should include a brief overview of their progress, challenges encountered, and any specific questions they wish to discuss.

Question Collection:

  • During the check-in, we will compile questions and challenges raised by students into a shared list.

Discussion in Plenum:

  • After the check-in, we will discuss the collected questions as a group.
