Nanophysics and Quantum Devices W19/20
to Whiteboard Site

Description

Todays information technology is based on nanoscale devices with feature sizes well below a micrometer. On such small scales quantum effects become important. Researchers in industry and at universities are presently exploring ways to make use of the quantum dynamics of nanoscale devices for future technologies.

The lecture will impart the relevant and fundamental concepts of nanoelectronics, -optics and -mechanics including a recapitulation of solid state physics as needed. Our focus will lie on quantum devices realized in nanostructures. We will discuss topical experiments aimed at the realization of quantum circuits, probing coherent quantum dynamics, coupling of distant quantum bits, many body interaction in nanostructures, and more.
