The students are able to analyze physical processes in the climate system. They can work with simple climate models and have basic knowledge of the structure and application of complex climate models. They are able to analyze and evaluate the results of climate model simulations and understand and critically evaluate relevant literature.
Contents: Processes in the climate system (e.g. interaction between radiation and circulation, variability of "storm tracks"), influence of anthropogenic climate change on the climate system, construction of climate models, basic equations, physical parameterizations, coordinate systems, time-stepping methods, model types, application and assessment of climate models.
