Computational Fluid Dynamics:
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) comprises the numerical simulation of flows and physical processes that are connected with flows. The corresponding partial differential equations are of importance in many applications.
This course will concentrate on two types of equations: equations that model conservation laws (energy, mass) and equations that model the behavior of incompressible flows (incompressible Navier-Stokes equations).
The simulation of both types of equations needs often special numerical methods. Important methods will be introduced, their convergence will be studied, and the conservation of physical properties will be discussed. The main focus will be on finite element methods.
Prerequisites: Numerics III.
Audience: This course is a continuation of Numerical Mathematics III. It is intended for students who are interested in numerical methods and their analysis. It might be a preparation for writing a master thesis on numerical methods for partial differential equations.
