The lecture focuses on the interface between technology and society with respect to security solutions in different fields. Based on selected examples of research and development projects we shed light on the subjective perceptions of such technologies and the often unintended side effects they provoke. Moreover we will discuss why some technical solutions are socially more accepted than others. The lecture will bring together social science approaches of dealing with uncertainty and risk perception with technical case examples in an interdisciplinary manner.
